We spoke with Diego Torales to learn more about his experience with McLarens and what attributed to his recognition in McLarens’ global employee award program, McLarens Platinum Circle.
What has been one of the most interesting or rewarding experiences you have had at McLarens?
Most rewarding to me is solving my customers’ technical problems, especially when the problem has a huge impact on their productivity. Fortunately, this is my daily role.
In addition, it’s a great honor to work near to so many fellow IT professionals here in Miami despite many of my department colleagues located elsewhere across the globe. Every day, the McLarens Global IT team faces so many challenges and I feel proud being part of this extraordinary group.
I’m looking forward to the McLarens Platinum Circle event next month to network with colleagues around the world and feel honored to be part of this distinguished group.
What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have a personal passion?
When I’m not at work, I prefer to spend my free time with my three daughters. We love to play soccer at our local park as well as ride our bikes around the neighborhood. Living in Miami, Florida affords many entertaining places to spend quality family time such as water parks, restaurants, and nice beaches. My kids are always planning our next family adventure like long road trips, cruises, or just renting out a beach house. I also enjoy accomplishing spontaneous projects around my house – gardening or renovations. There are always things to do and the creativity never ends.
What advice would you give someone starting out in this field or considering it as a career option?
The technological world is constantly developing and improving and we all know that this trend will continue. I believe that if you choose a career in technology or innovation, you must be ready to adapt fast to the changes and be open to this fast-paced industry in order to grow and advance. Since childhood, I have been interested in computers and 18 years ago I landed my first job in the computer industry. I’ve always wanted to join a large organization and McLarens has filled that dream. Over the years in this business, I have gained vast knowledge that I wish I knew when I first started. If you choose a career in technology you must be passionate about helping others, be persistent to achieve your goals, be hungry to learn new things, and be curious to find out how things work.
