Tropical Cyclone Yasa is now over open waters between Fiji and Vanuatu in the South Pacific and is expected to move towards Fiji from tomorrow.
According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the Tropical Cyclone is likely to become a category 5 as it passes close to or over Fiji later this week. Current projections show the center of Yasa is expected to pass between the two main Fijian islands by Thursday however adverse weather will be felt by parts of Fiji in the next 24 hours.
A category 5 cyclone may cause widespread power failures, destroy roofing and cause considerable damage to infrastructure and buildings on the islands. You can read more in our bulletin available for download below.

McLarens has three Loss Adjusters on the ground in Fiji who are supported by six staff from a local engineering firm. Given the challenges associated with COVID-19 this engineering team has been arranged to conduct post-loss damage surveys in an effort to enhance our response to the potential event.
The engineering team will be closely monitored by one of our local Loss Adjusters, their mandate will be to conduct post loss damage surveys only. The insurance aspects and reporting will be dealt with by our qualified Loss Adjusting team.
We are in discussions with the Fijian Government to enable additional Adjusting resource to travel from our New Zealand and Australian offices and to enter quarantine in Fiji as soon as possible.
