HM Choong commenced his career in loss adjusting in 1978 with an international loss adjusting firm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After a few years of work experience, he was promoted to Branch Manager of Kuantan office covering the East Coast states of Pahang, Trengganu and Kelantan. He was later transferred to head the Johor Bharu office in Johor state.
Besides handling the operation of these two branches he was also involved in handling of sizeable losses in the property and casualty classes.
In1990, he was transferred back to Kuala Lumpur Head office and appointed to the Board as an Executive Director. He was put in charge of the East Coast and Southern region. In the later years, his portfolios include Director in charge of Kota Kinabalu and Kucing offices in East Malaysia and also Head of Engineering and Construction. In 2008, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer and remained until he retired in 2022.
During his tenure in the insurance industry, he has held various positions in the Association of Malaysian Loss Adjusters (AMLA) as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. He also represented the company as a trainer with the Malaysian Insurance Institute.
He is an Associate of the Malaysian Insurance Institute (AMII) , Associate Chartered Insurance Institute UK (ACII) and Fellow Chartered Institute Loss Adjusters (FCILA). He joined McLarens Malaysia as an advisor in January 2023.
