After graduating from the University of Lancaster, David spent four years working in the UK Textile and Construction Industry. He moved to full time loss adjusting in 1990 with McLarens UK based in Leeds. Following the aftermath of Hurricane Louis in 1995, David worked in the Caribbean, predominantly on catastrophe related losses including the Montserrat volcanic eruption, Hurricane Georges, Hurricane Michelle, and Hurricane Floyd.
Between 2000 and 2004, David was based in the McLarens Toplis Office in Barbados and also handled claims in Bermuda following Hurricane Fabian in 2003.
In 2004, David established the McLarens office in Trinidad and Tobago. He was Director Responsible for the coordination of the McLarens catastrophe response team, which operated in Grenada following the impact of Hurricane Ivan.
