We spoke with Lalitya Dhavala to learn more about her experience with McLarens and advice she has for those entering a career path in our industry.
What has been one of the most interesting or rewarding experiences you have had at McLarens?
Being able to travel to a variety of destinations and interacting with the locals is truly rewarding and a unique aspect of our work at McLarens compared to many other industries and career paths. Being based in the Middle East regional office, we occasionally travel to unique places, such as Iraq. Meeting local people and experiencing their hospitality and generosity has given me a real appreciation of the ‘real world’ of cities that we normally only see on a screen, and this has made me feel truly privileged and humbled.
What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have a personal passion?
My personal passion is dancing. I love to learn different styles of dance as well as incorporate activities into my routine that involve either attending cultural performances or participating in some. Dancing is also a great form of exercise for me!
My other passion is personal development, and to this end, I enjoy using resources such as reading books, listening to a variety of podcasts, and engaging in volunteering activities for Professional Networking Groups in the region, including the Royal Aeronautical Society in the UAE. I look forward to planning the professional development program in September 2019.
What advice would you give someone starting out in this field or considering it as a career option?
For someone starting out in the loss adjusting field, my advice would be to hone your social skills through practice and/or networking events. I say this because whilst our work is rooted in technical knowledge, I view it as a ‘people business’, and the skills of effective communication, tact and diplomacy will enable you to build the relationships that will help you throughout your career.
