We spoke with Antonio Freitas to learn more about his experience with McLarens and what attributed to his recognition in McLarens’ global employee award program, McLarens Platinum Circle.
What has been one of the most interesting or rewarding experiences you have had at McLarens?
I initially joined the McLarens as a member of the Catastrophe (CAT) Team to manage claims caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in September 2017. During the six months I worked in Puerto Rico, I realized how our work personally impacted the locals and that the claims were much more than mere numbers, but rather that they can almost define the life of a person or a family.
While away from my family in Brazil, I was especially thankful for the support of my fellow CAT staff members. Living with adjusters from many other countries fostered a team spirit and joint cooperation that surpassed any other education experience and helped overcome challenges.
In the few months I was there, I handled over 200 claims which results in a great deal of experience. In addition, I was sure this career was exactly what I wanted for my life: to help people, to present a work of excellence to our clients, and exhibit the human element in our work and in the situations in which we are exposed. This experience in particular showed me McLarens’ value of quality, which in turn me feel extremely proud to belong to this team.
I’m further honored to be a recipient of the McLarens Platinum Circle award and look forward to adding more rewarding experience with my colleagues.
What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have a personal passion?
One of my great passions is cooking for my daughter and wife. Whenever I can, I enjoying cooking the Brazilian cuisine, as well as healthy and nutritious fare. I am also a lover of coffees, cakes, and sweets. Likely due to the demands of this career, I love being at home, relaxing and watching movies and TV with my family.
What advice would you give someone starting out in this field or considering it as a career option?
My advice is:
- Never stop learning. The industry changes frequently so be ready to take on new challenges. Constant improvement is crucial to your development.
- Acknowledge your mistakes. Recognizing your mistakes will make you a cautious and more prepared person.
- Be honest; exhibit integrity. No matter how difficult, stay honest.
- Prioritize your family. When work requirements bring distance and pressures, it’s extremely important to make time for your loved ones to ultimately remain focused.
