We spoke with Ho Shen Yuan, Associate Director- Singapore, to learn more about his experience with McLarens and what attributed to his recognition in McLarens’ global employee award program, McLarens Platinum Circle.
What has been one of the most interesting or rewarding experiences you have had at McLarens?
I’ve most enjoyed learning and growing at McLarens. In particular, I’ve found that the McLarens team works in harmony, intentionally sharing knowledge and information to help one another to grow.
As an example, a few years ago, a fire occurred in a mall which forced it to close for four consecutive days. McLarens handled numerous cases from a variety of insurers. Our team sprung into action coordinating ground work, conducting stock checks, overseeing various field works, and issuing preliminary reports to insurers to establish reserve for each reported case.
The teamwork and collaboration demonstrated during this event cemented my belief that McLarens values each team member and their contributions. To this extend, I’m further honored to be included in the inaugural list of winners for the McLarens Platinum Circle employee recognition program and look forward to meeting colleagues later this year in Dubai.
What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have a personal passion?
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my children and family. While my career grants me a great sense of achievement, I am most thankful for the love, patience and understanding my family gives me so that I am able to offer my best at work and for our clients.
What advice would you give someone starting out in this field or considering it as a career option?
Claims adjusting is an art: easy to learn the basics but difficult to master. This industry requires critical thinking and skills to handle a variety of client requests. It also requires the person to have the willingness to continue to learn and take responsibility in one’s decision. Whether out in the field or at the desk drafting a report for insurers’ review, the adjuster must exhibit self-discipline, motivation, and immense enthusiasm to face the daily challenges that come with the work.
