Simon graduated as a Geophysicist in 1980 and continued his studies to complete his master’s degree and then carry out research work until 1984. In 1995, he joined the China Vessel Investigation Authority, where he was engaged in marine engineering and investigation work, which included a period working with Noble Denton Marine Survey Consultation Co., Ltd., for vessel investigation and warranty insurance studies.
In 1989, Simon joined Ping An Insurance Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen, where he worked in various roles in the Shenzhen Branch and Head Office, including underwriting manager, branch business manager, customer services manager and claims manager. As the manager of Ping An’s claims department, Simon gained extensive experience of claims handling, recovery and litigation for all lines of business.
He has been responsible for the claims management of some very large losses, with sizes in excess of USD 10 million. He also has been apart of the successful resolution for major property claims up to USD 200 Million.
McLarens has been successful in securing the nomination (CAR / Marine) of China’s largest nuclear power station, Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station, through the efforts of both Simon and McLarens Hong Kong and is presently involved in securing nominations for numerous major projects throughout China and overseas.
